What is web design at JMS all about?
Web design is a ten week course that teaches the fundamentals to students. I designed the class so students would have a solid understanding as to what skills are needed to be a professional web designer and to spark student interest for a possible career within the industry. Software used in this course is the exact same as a true web designer would utilize. Upon completion of the class, students use Adobe Fireworks CS5 to design and develop a fully functioning website. Students develop individual projects that become part of their final portfolio. Each project builds upon the previous as part of the rapid prototyping process. Final projects are not published to the web, but are exported as interactive PDFs for students to share with friends and family. Their final projects are similar to a design document that a professional web designer would present to a client. In addition to web design, an emphasis is placed on the importance of graphic design. Since graphic design and the web go hand in hand, students are taught how to utilize images, prepare images for final export, understand various types of graphics, and to pay close attention to detail. I believe it is the quality of the project...not the quantity!
